Our contributions to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

We endorse the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and seek to align our operations and activities with the prescribed SDGs.

SDGs	SDG 1: No Poverty
Relevance	Acute deprivation and exclusionary processes accentuated by natural calamities make poverty persist, and eliminating poverty requires inclusive social protection practices.
Highlights	Through our strategy of local employment and procurement, we aim to provide opportunities for generating income in the communities where we work. We have invested $7.98 million in community initiatives in 2019 and 2020, including $4.16 million in the KRI.

SDGs	SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
Relevance	Promoting health and well-being is critical to sustainable development.
Highlights	We supported the second and third annual UAE Rare Disease Day organised by the High Hopes Pediatric Therapy Center in Dubai. We endorsed the Relay for Life, a 24-hour cancer fundraiser held by the Friends of Cancer Patients at the American University of Sharjah.

SDGs	SDG 4: Quality Education
Relevance	Quality education is the foundation of sustainable societies. In addition to improving quality of life, it enables people to tackle the world’s greatest challenges.
Highlights	We partnered with Edraak to develop a series of career readiness courses to boost youth employability. We ensure training and upskilling for our employees as per international best practices. In 2019 and 2020 we delivered more than 50,000 man-hours of training to our employees.

SDGs	SDG 5: Gender Equality
Relevance	Women remain a mostly untapped source of talent as they are underrepresented in the global business world.
Highlights	We are committed to attracting, nurturing, and retaining female talent. Women represent over 24 per cent of our UAE workforce and growing.

SDGs	SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Relevance	Access to water, sanitation and hygiene is a human right, yet billions still lack access to these basic services.
Highlights	We are committed to reducing water consumption by promoting the use of recycled water in our facilities and significantly reducing total withdrawal. We also ensure that all effluent from our operations is properly treated before disposal or reuse.

SDGs	SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Relevance	Access to electricity and energy efficiency in poorer countries need to be improved, with emphasis on clean and safe cooking fuels.
Highlights	Our operations help supply the KRI with more reliable electricity supply. We are consistently working to boost the energy efficiency of our operations.

SDGs	SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Relevance	Sustained and inclusive economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all, and improve living standards. Yet, employment disparities remain across regions and age groups.
Highlights	We placed 63 per cent of our procurement orders with local suppliers in 2019 and 58 per cent in 2020. We have maintained zero LTI in both 2019 and 2020.

SDGs	SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Relevance	Investments in infrastructure—transport, irrigation, energy and information and communication technology—are crucial to achieving sustainable development and empowering communities.
Highlights	We are committed to the economic growth and infrastructural development of the KRI. Our SP function supports clean energy transition and infrastructural development surrounding our areas of operation.

SDGs	SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities
Relevance	Improving access to equal opportunities for all important to create a more inclusive and sustainable society.
Highlights	We sponsored Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi in 2019, which attracted 7,500 athletes of intellectual determination from 200 countries.

SDGs	SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Relevance	Cities are hubs for ideas, commerce, culture, and science. They enable people to advance socially and economically.
Highlights	We invested a total of $7.98 million in local communities in 2019 and 2020.

SDGs	SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Relevance	Sustainable consumption and production are about promoting resource and energy efficiency as well as sustainable infrastructure.
Highlights	We have optimised the use of energy and water across our operations. We have reduced waste generation and significantly expanded recycling efforts compared to 2018. Flaring from our production operation represented 0.7 per cent of total raw gas processed in 2020, and we aim to continue to reduce that level.

SDGs	SDG 13: Climate Action
Relevance	Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives.
Highlights	We have achieved a 10 per cent reduction in Scope 1 emissions over the last five years to 295k tCO2e. We have helped avoid over 41.98 million tonnes of CO2 emissions through diesel replacement in the KRI during the same period.

SDGs	SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Relevance	The protection of individual rights entails the implementation of worldwide birth registrations and the creation of more independent national human rights institutions around the world.
Highlights	Corruption risks are high in our areas of operation; therefore, we remain vigilant and continue to upgrade our governance systems and processes.

Relevance	Partnership is key to achieving the SGDs at all levels across countries, communities, and businesses.
Highlights	We have partnered with various reputable organisations for the implementation of our SP initiatives, employee training, and environmental initiatives.
